Summer Break!

I have submitted my final assignments for my two summer classes and now it is time to relax and enjoy summer break. Summer break is a lot different with a toddler. My first few summers as a teacher I enjoyed binge watching shows, sleeping in late, soaking up the sun, and planning for the next school year. This summer I wake up with my son, binge watch Disney movies, and entertain my little crazy man. (I finally started the new season of The Handmaid’s Tale! Before my son, I would have been waiting for the new episode every week!)

This week was difficult because it was my last week of class, we started potty training, and the first week with nice weather!  I made the decision to enjoy the sunshine with my baby and then cram my last few assignments in right before they were due.  I do not regret it because he had so much fun swimming.  I am excited to not have to worry about homework until the fall…as long as I get accepted into my grad program.  Potty training is also going surprisingly well, but that’s a topic for another time.

I read a post about how you only get 18 summers with your children.  This realization hit me hard.  I want to make sure I soak in every moment with my son.  Sometimes it is hard to enjoy the tantrums, but I try to remind myself that he is only little for a short time.  I already see how fast this time goes.  Everyday he is learning new things and becoming more independent.

This summer I plan to live in the moment and make all the memories! As much as I enjoy planning for the school year, I want to enjoy the days I have with my son while he is little and wants to hang out with me. We will sleep in some days(9 am is sleeping in right?) and stay up late. We will enjoy the pool and zoo! We will skip nap on days to hang out with family and friends.

These are the days I have dreamt about my whole life.  I want to give my son memories he will remember for the rest of his life.  This is the time to start traditions that he may one day continue with his family.  He is finally at the age where he is enjoying outings and has started voicing what he wants to do.

Now if it could stop raining for more than a couple days, so that we can enjoy being outside, I’d be so happy.

Hi! I’m Nicole. I am a mom to a crazy toddler and a kindergarten teacher. Welcome to my blog where I discuss mom life, teacher life, and life in general!
